Château Marjosse Red Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux Contrôlée 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

"This lower pedigree wine represents undeniable quality/value rapport in 2005. This vintage is so deep in quality among the better run, less heralded estates, that these wines should appeal to readers looking for terrific values from Bordeaux. Most of these wines are Merlot-based and will be drinkable young. Sleeper of the vintage." "Medium-bodied, with pleasant fruit and a fine, silky finish. From the manager of Cheval-Blanc and Yquem." -85-88 - Wine Spectator "Pleasant and dry, with raspberry fruit. Smooth, with plenty of soft, easy fruit. A real crowd pleaser." - Good/Very Good - Wall St. Journal - 01/11/08

A fine value that really took advantage of all the vintage had to offer. While this wine is well structured with big tannins there is ample fruit to offer balance. The nose is typical Bordeaux with sweet fruit, a touch of caramelly oak and herbaceous notes that turns towards the smoked chile end of the spectrum The palate is still a bit tight but there is a layered quality with notes of cocoa, oaken spice, licorice, and roasting coffee bean all taking turns accentuating the ripe herb and cassis core of fruit. The tannins clamp down a bit on the finish but the wine offers a classic Bordeaux experience from an excellent vintage at a very nice price. 2010-2020 89pts

Smashing bordeaux of the Entre-Deux-Mers appelation. Velvet in the mouth with plenty of dark fruit. A small joy.
