Château Malescasse Red Bordeaux Blend Haut-Médoc 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Nicely aromatic with notes of bacon fat, blackberry, black pepper, leather, and a touch of roast meat – very smooth entry, nice wild berry fruits, nicely managed and well integrated tannins, fruit is layered and juicy, covering the soft tannins on the moderately long finish (89-90)

Schönes Rubinrot, leichter, nicht allzu präsenter Holz-Geschmack. Feiner Vanillegeschmack, rund, mittelstarke Tannine. Könnte etwas sehr gutes werden!

Another petit Chateau tucked away among the remains of the 2006 Bordeaux release, Malescasse evokes wet earth and stewed prunes on the nose. Tannins are soft and the wine has just a touch of sweetness to ensure everything is in proper balance. The entry is smooth and viscous - not unlike some modestly priced South American offerings. Not much elegance or complexity, but definitely Medoc and definitely well-made. Good value. Drink now or hold up to 2 years.

Very developed for a 2006 with a medium slightly tawny medium ruby color. Old school Bordeaux with a cedar and cigar tobacco nose. Slightly acidic and slightly tannic. The tannins showed a hint of bitterness in the finish. This is a ready to drink wine and was $20 at the shop where I tasted it. The above must be a case price.

great nose, oaky, but beautiful fruit, tannic, good acidity, and positively bordeaux. almost seems like a Pauillac. Let this one age for 3-8 years, or decant for several hours, a bit racey, but wonderful juice here!

This was a nice wine. Probably one of the best we had out of the mixed case batch of around $20 wines.
