Château Malartic-Lagravière Double 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

A perpetual over achiever from the Pessac-Leognan, the oldest wine-producing terroir in Bordeaux. This region of course is also home to First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion. Château Malartic-Lagravière's red wine in the outstanding 2010 vintage received raves including 95 points from James Suckling. A fabulous blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, Robert Parker scored it 94 points saying "Lead pencil shavings, soy and barbecue smoke as well as red and black currants characterize this brilliant effort, which has an expansive, full-bodied mouthfeel yet a sublime elegance and lightness of being. Dense ruby/purple, gorgeous purity and a long, long finish of close to 50 seconds characterize another brilliant effort from this classified growth in Pessac-Leognan. It should drink nicely for 25-30 years yet is surprisingly accessible even today."

The Domaine de Lagravière, famed since time immemorial for its excellent terroir and this famous "hillock" of gravel. In honour of the Count Hippolyte of Malartic, admiral who served the Kings of France and owner of the Domaine in the 18th Century, the Château was renamed Malartic-Lagraviere.Bought by Michèle and Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie at the end of 1996, the estate has been completely renovated. All the conditions have been united to make Malartic-Lagravière's wines worthy of their place amongst the greatest Bordeaux: a terroir and vineyard of high standards, innovative and high performance equipment devoted entirely to traditional winemaking methods, and a committed and passionate team. One of the only six classified growths both for its red and white, Château Malartic-Lagravière's wines are well known all over the world for their complexity, power, elegance and balance.
