Château Lynch-Bages Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend Bordeaux Contrôlée Blanc 1996

Winemaker's Notes:

The fleshy, mouth-filling flavours of this wine, from the exceptional 1996vintage, leads to great finesse on the finish. With its voluptuous cassis fruitit is a blockbuster to enjoy now but will improve with age. Pauillac at itsbest.

In the 18th century, Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch, mayor of Bordeaux, inherited the estate and handed over management to his brother Michel Lynch, who was also mayor of Pauillac during the French Revolution. Jean-Charles Cazes, highly respected in the Médoc for his experience in viticul- ture and winemaking, bought the property in 1934. With his son André, he devoted all his energy to Lynch-Bages for more than 35 years. In 1974, his grand-son Jean-Michel Cazes set about restructuring and managing the estate and recently, in 2006, handed over the running of the property to his son Jean-Charles. Read less

This is much more open than the 1995. Offers aromas and flavors of currant mint and spices. Full-bodied soft and velvety with a fruit finish. Starting to drink well now.--Lynch-Bages non-blind vertical. Best from 2008 through 2012. 35 000 cases made. Wine Spectator.

...Ripe aromas of currant tobacco leather smoke and game. Sweetly penetrating currant and cherry flavors in the mouth; rich and nicely balanced with a silky texture... Stephen Tanzers IWC.

...intense aromas of mint berries and currants. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and a delicious ripe fruit and lead-pencil aftertaste. Very fine indeed... Wine Spectator.
