Château Lynch-Bages Red Bordeaux Blend Pauillac 1999

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes :This dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 is a modern day clone of this estate's wonderful 1962. The 1999 reveals forward, open-knit notes of creme de cassis and earth. It is fleshy, medium to full-bodied, and succulent, with supple tannin, excellent balance, as well as a long, pure, ripe finish. This seductive effort will drink well for 12-15 years, possibly longer.

In the 18th century, Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch, mayor of Bordeaux, inherited the estate and handed over management to his brother Michel Lynch, who was also mayor of Pauillac during the French Revolution. Jean-Charles Cazes, highly respected in the Médoc for his experience in viticul- ture and winemaking, bought the property in 1934. With his son André, he devoted all his energy to Lynch-Bages for more than 35 years. In 1974, his grand-son Jean-Michel Cazes set about restructuring and managing the estate and recently, in 2006, handed over the running of the property to his son Jean-Charles. Read less

Not quite ready to bite the bullet and purchase a Lafite, Latour, or Margeaux? This is the wine for you. This Bordeaux has all the attributes of the big boys but you won't have to take out a second mortgage. Very clean taste, classic Bordeaux fruits, and a prolonged finish make this a fantastic "value"
