Château Lynch-Bages Red Bordeaux Blend Pauillac 1995

Winemaker's Notes:

The 1995 Ch. Lynch-Bages exhibits medium intense garnet colour, a rich<br/>cedary nose leading on to a palate with abundant quantities of earthy, smoke<br/>and tobacco-tinged, black currant fruit, rich, concentrated, medium to<br/>full-bodied flavours, and supple tannin in the long finish.

Château Lynch-bages:

Château Lynch-Bages was owned by the Lynch family for three quarters of a century. They descended from John Lynch, a young Irishman from Galway who was chased out of his country in 1691. In the 18th century, Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch, mayor of Bordeaux, inherited the estate and handed over management to his brother Michel Lynch, who was also mayor of Pauillac during the French Revolution. Jean-Charles Cazes, highly respected in the Médoc for his experience in viticul- ture and winemaking, bought the property in 1934. With his son André, he devoted all his energy to Lynch-Bages for more than 35 years. In 1974, his grand-son Jean-Michel Cazes set about restructuring and managing the estate and recently, in 2006, handed over the running of the property to his son Jean-Charles. Read less

Needed to be decanted for an hour and half before it really opened up. Still good tannins so can sit. Classic Paulliac. Aggressive but still refined. Prosit

Tasted Dec2009, delicious Cabernet, still fresh, but with secondary characters enhancing the fruit and now fully intergrated oak. Deep long finish which is not only a mark of the vinatge in this area, but a testiment to the good winemaking. Well done.

Much better than I ever remember. Complex aromas of currants, berries and mint. Full-bodied, very tannic, but velvety and caressing. Getting better all the time. Best after 2002. (JS) Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1995 Lynch Bages 6000ml

This is a beautiful wine with an evolved personality and low acidity. The wine exhibits abundant quantities of earthy, smoke and tobacco-tinged, black currant fruit, rich, concentrated, medium to full-bodied flavors, and moderate tannin in the long finish. It is successful, but nowhere near full maturity. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.

A wine that continues to improve with age. Shows loads of ripe plum almost prune with hints of vanilla and mineral. Full chewy and tight. Still needs time.--Lynch-Bages non-blind vertical. Best after 2008. -JS Wine Spectator.
