Château Lynch-Bages Red Bordeaux Blend Pauillac 1986

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 1986 performed exceptionally well in May, tasting like a 3-5 year old wine rather than one that's 14. The color is a dense ruby/purple with very little lightening. The nose offers up moderate quantities of minerals, leather, oak, and black fruits. Full, powerful, sweet, and rich, yet searingly tannic, this is an impressive, well-built, broodingly backward Lynch Bages that requires another 3-4 years of aging, although it can be consumed with some pleasure. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020." (Wine Advocate - June 2000)

In the 18th century, Count Jean-Baptiste Lynch, mayor of Bordeaux, inherited the estate and handed over management to his brother Michel Lynch, who was also mayor of Pauillac during the French Revolution. Jean-Charles Cazes, highly respected in the Médoc for his experience in viticul- ture and winemaking, bought the property in 1934. With his son André, he devoted all his energy to Lynch-Bages for more than 35 years. In 1974, his grand-son Jean-Michel Cazes set about restructuring and managing the estate and recently, in 2006, handed over the running of the property to his son Jean-Charles. Read less

Classic Bordeaux nose that starts very herbal and earth but slowly opens to reveal lurking cassis and mulberry fruits with distinct clean tones of graphite and cedar. This has resolved so well, silky entry is really lovely. Just entering it's plateau this remains rich and packed with fruit that just has a touch of austerity on the palate. The dense core remains light on it's feet with lively acidity and a long very fine finish that recalls the aromatics on the nose. The fruit grows in the glass yet remains very precise with great cut and definition. Wonderful mature Bordeaux. 2008-2020

This vintage continues to test its owners' patience. In particular, the northern Medocs remain incredibly youthful, promise-filled wines (assuming they were purchased in a healthy condition and stored... Robert Parker. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1986 Lynch Bages 750ml

A first-class wine with a powerful backbone. Displays inky color and smoky cherry aromas; full-bodied and balanced with a long finish. Try after 1996. -JS Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1986 Lynch Bages 750ml
