This is downright refined when contrasted against the Gruaud. There’s a touch of leather and a hint of barnyard but the impression here is one of sweeter fruit, with a hint of gingerbread, and lovely dusty, smoky mineral top notes with emerging herbal undertones. In the palate this is still young and very finely balanced. It’s a much more focused wine than the Gruaud, perhaps a little too focused but the fruit, black raspberry, powers through on the backend and onto the finish. As good as this is it lacks some dimension. It’s a linear wine, firmly at peak and delicious but this is not has not developed a seductive texture or any particular complexity. A solid wine 91pts.

Still very vibrant. Cassis, anise, a bit of funk, tangy spiciness on the back side; moderate, somewhat peppery finish; subdued oak, silky smooth tannins, good fruitiness. While this shows a definite maturity, I would never have guessed it was 29 years old - still going strong.

mpressive finesse for the vintage, with beautiful, fresh tobacco, cedar and coffee aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and very silky with a fine, long finish. Drinkable now.--The Bordeaux 50. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1983 Lynch Bages 750ml
