Chateau les Ollieux Romanis Corbieres Cuvee Classique 2011

Member Review by Nicki Gig:

spritz like, some mineral and floral notes on the nose. citrus palate filled with grapefruit pithe, lemon, green apples and towards the end some white pepper, a little zest but finishes quickly

Fruity and fresh. This wine has a summer quality to it, with the refreshing taste of ripe raspberry and cassis, and flowers. Finessed tannins, the texture is fluid and silky. Very pretty wine that will live for a while. Food pairing: white meats, vegetarian-friendly

White wines from Corbières are few and far between. That fact, combined with the consistently high-quality wines we’ve seen from this estate, almost had us sold on this wine before we’d even tried it. Of course, it lived up to our expectations. This equal blend of Marsanne and Roussanne is surprisingly fresh on the palate, with notes of honey, lush citrus fruits, and white flowers. Fermented and aged entirely in steel tanks, it is a rich, round wine, but this richness comes from its viscous texture, not the influence of oak.

This is a hearty, viscous, opaque, tannic, all-around intriguing red wine. Made entirely from Alicante, sometimes known as Alicante Bouschet, it is nearly black in color, packed with darker-than-dark fruits, and bursting at the seams with flavor.
