Les Forts de Latour is produced from three plots situated outside the "Grand Enclos" and from vines less than 12 years old. Also, on the quality of the vintage, certain vats of Chateau Latour may be assigned to Les Forts de Latour if they are not up to the standards of the Grand Vin. The varieties are 70% Cabernet, 30% Merlot. The exact proportion of grape varieties will vary slightly from year to year. Robert Parker 92, Wine Spectator 94.

Shows blackberry, coffee, cedar, and raisin on the nose, turning to licorice and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, with refined, silky tannins and a long finish. Balanced and juicy. Builds on the palate, with currant, licorice and mineral character, follow... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Forts de Latour, Les 1500ml

The 2005 Forts de Latour (10,000 cases produced) possesses much of the same character as Latour, but sweeter tannins, more obvious and forward fruit, medium to full body, and a more seductive, plusher style, but not the great stature, richness, and a... It took four days after this bottle was first opened for the wine to shed the tough reductive character in the tannin and begin to show the plump claret this will become with time. What initially feels dark ripe and dry-as-a-drought turns toward juicy red and black currant fruit underlined by pleasantly bitter chocolate tannin. Les Forts is produced from the young vines at Latour s Grand Enclos (the main vineyard) from lots that do not make it into the first wine plus selections from three other estate parcels. Deep garnet in color this is scented of warm black berries anise oolong tea and smoked meat. The palate is a little restrained and though just beginning to open into some layers is still quite taut with a solid structure supporting the generous flesh. -Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
