You will enjoy finding out how this white wine can be rich and complex without being overly "oaked". French white wines can age better than California whites due to their higher acidity. The dominance of the Semillion separates this wine from the standard Sauvignons of Bordeaux. Les Charmes Godard has earned a reputation and a place amongst the great whites of Bordeaux. As the smallest Bordeaux appellation, vines have been grown in Côtes de Francs from ancient times. Some churches date back to the 11th century with the first settlements of the "Francs" in the 6th century. Bonus Notes: The dry white wines of 2006 are indeed the stars of this vintage. Sauvignon and Semillon (the varietals that constitute Bordeaux blanc) were harvested in the cool temperatures of August which produced outstanding acidity and freshness.
The Semillion, barrel fermentation, along with lees contact give richness and structure to the wine. The aroma is complex and composed of pineapple, apple cider, and flowers. The palate offers lemon, cooked apple, honey, and yeast qualities. Thanks to the proper aging and storing of this wine, the acidity is quite balanced now and will pair well with cheese, shrimp sauteed with garlic and parsley, or pasta with light citrus cream sauce.
