Château les Carmes Haut-Brion Red Bordeaux Blend Pessac-Léognan 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

"..... A wine of finesse and depth, it has superb concentration and
opulence. Medium-bodied, layered, and lush, with extraordinary aromatic
complexity (cigar tobacco, earth, coffee, black currants, and ripe
plums/prunes), stunning purity, a seamless texture, and sweet tannin, it will
take longer to provide thrilling drinking than I initially thought. At present,
it is tight and closed, but aeration brings out its perfume. Anticipated
maturity: 2007-2020." 92/100 points. (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate -
Apr-2003)

At Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion, each individual vine, every step of the winemaking processes receives meticulous care. Didier Furt and his wife Caroline have recently renovated this jewel of an estate. The cellars have been enlarged. Small vats from 40 to 80 hectoliters allow separate vinification of each vineyard block. The wine matures in small oaks casks in the aging cellar built in 1987, and is then bottled at the chateau. The estate is advised by the Dean of the Faculty of Enology of Bordeaux, Yves Glories, an eminent researcher ans consulting enologist. Glories has created a technique for precise monitoring of grape skin color and tannins, allowing exact measurement of optimum ripeness and hence the choice oh the perfect harvest date. It is thus possible to adapt the vinification of each vat to accurately reflect the vineyard and vintage. Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a wine characteristic of its appellation, subtle, elegant, and well-suited for aging. Complex, aromatic, and perfectly balanced, it is the subject of increasing demand. It is also a rare wine, with only 20, 000 bottles produced each year. The progress of the last few years is evident : in expert tastings, Les Carmes Haut-Brion is consistently awarded top scores comparable with the greatest wines of the appellation. Read less

Medium bright ruby. Superripe, liqueur-like aromas of red berries, roast coffee, tobacco and roasted stones. Chewy, very intense, slightly roasted flavors fill the mouth. Almost exotically ripe. Finishes with big, chewy tannins and excellent persiste... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2000 Carmes Haut Brion, Les 750ml
