2009-2030."" (04/06)Wine Spectator 95: Pure cassis on the nose. Impressive. Full-bodied, thick and powerful, with loads of fruit and big, velvety tannins. Goes on for minutes on the palate. Huge wine. Very, very impressive. This is one of the big surprises of the vintage. Best after 2012. 19,165 cases made. (JS) (3/06) Wine Enthusiast 91-93 This is certainly a big, tannic wine, but there are also huge dark-plum flavors, spices and a fine long-term structure. Decanter: 4 Stars Fine, elegant, reserved. This could be very good. Realm of impeccable, blackcurrant fruit, refined tannins and a long confident finish. Bravo! Drink 2006-21. (04/06) 1855: 5 Glasses An other great vintage for Leoville Poyferre. A great 2002, and now, an amazing 2003. Delicate and racy, with a wide range of aromas. Very elegant. A great aging potential. Steven Tanzer 92: Medium ruby-red. Extravagant aromas of currant, loam, leather and graphite; like the 1990 in its roasted character. Then sweet and dense but with surprising aromatic lift in the mouth, not to mention considerable power. Liqueur-like black fruit, licorice and mineral flavors really stain the palate. Cuvelier maintained that this vintage was not acidified. The cabernet acidity, he said, was healthy and the grape skins gave up their acidity slowly during the vinification. A very impressive showing, and built to last. (05/06) Farr Vintners 17+: A big jump in quality here recently and like its neighbour Léoville Barton, Poyferré is always very good value for money. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Very concentrated classic Cabernet nose. Ripe fruits on the palate. Creamy and fleshy. Sweet and juicy with layered tannins and structure. The most approachable and seductive of the 3 Léovilles. This is a beautiful, ripe wine that will be a joy to drink. Jancis Robinson 18: Very dark crimson. Very sweet, almost coconut notes. Rich, opulent with lovely freshness underneath - fine-grained tannins giving real zip to the wine.
