Château Leoville las Cases St. Julien 2017

Member Review by William Djubin:

It was a Château Léoville Las Cases 1995, he has the 1993 but wanted to tease me. Still drinking very young. Great Cab/ Cab Franc blend. And still amazingly young. Great Job Mr Sussman for cellaring. (I already told you tonite, thanks for bringing a favorite to share.) William

Dense red in the glass. Pretty, floral nose. Dark red and black fruits. I guessed Margaux or St. Julien. Pretty tones with a nice zing of acidity. Violets, some graphite, lavender, wood and nice berry tones. - Blind tasted 9/18/10

Actually, 3.4 stars. Color, this wine has an OKAY color, nothing spectacular really. On the nose, pencil shreds, yes! There a lot of pencil shreds going on here, wet stones, sweet tobacco, dried leaves, and a smell of (swimming pool!), very thin, a hint of blueberries. Midpalate, the first thing I notice here is that this wine is thin! It has a decent complexity, pencil shreds still vibrant, some blueberries coming through. Finish, this wine fills the mouth, acceptable acidity, rough tannins (not harsh though!), considerably long finish, not very pleasant. Overall, this wine is still well balanced. Taking into account that 2003 was a hot vintage in Bordeaux and not really that good, I think this is an acceptable effort compared to the other 2003 Bordeauxs. I have to emphasize that this wine is really thin in the mouth now, so I wouldn't recommend that you put it away for a long time. I am 91 on this effort. Happy drinking!

very tight, oaky nose, dark jam, and more oak, with class, and dark cherry fruit coming back, sweet tobacco, more structure shining through, and more fruit countering. Still very tight, and a lot of oak. Has class, but needs a lot of time. Almost new world like. If you're drinking today, leave this one alone. 7/19/09

A dense and rich young wine with licorice and spice character. Some tar too. Medium to full body with firm tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Dense fruit structure for the vintage. James Suckling.

This is a very solid wine with tannins that are very firm and dense. There is power without excessive alcohol lending a classic feel and a pure line from fruit acidity and tannin. The result is as much about fruit as structure. Wine Enthusiast.

Displays a solid core of plum blackberry and cassis lined with roasted apple wood and backed by a hint of ganache and briar. Shows excellent integration overall with a serious iron note buried on the finish. A rock-solid version for this vintage.

The seriously endowed 2012 Las Cases exhibits a dense purple color as well as surprisingly sweet tannin and a forwardness that one does not normally find at this address. Medium to full-bodied with beautiful black currant graphite crushed rock and subtle oaky notes it possesses lots of minerality and precision impressive power a rich mid-palate (which sets it apart from other St.-Juliens) and a long finish. It appears this beauty will be drinkable in 5-6 years and last for 25 or more.

This has very solid guts, with dark, almost brooding plum compote, currant paste and anise notes, followed by a hint of roasted juniper wood on the finish, which smolders nicely. An iron hint lurks throughout as well.-J.M. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Leoville-Las Cases 1500ml

This wine is immensely dark powered by black plum and a ripe complex structure; its elements are already molding into place. Expect great things of this wine. Wine Enthusiast.
