Château Léoville las Cases Red Bordeaux Blend St. Julien 1997

Winemaker's Notes:

Château Leoville Las Cases is the most legendary wine of Saint-Julien: on a quality par with the Medoc's first growths, without the hefty price premium to match, it is the prime example of a Bordeaux 'super-second' - second growth operating at a first growth level. At Leoville Las Cases the grapes are fermented at lower than average temperatures, which is partially responsible for the wines displaying some of the most exotic aromas and aromatic richness in the Medoc. The 1997 Bordeaux vintage produced a wealth of soft, attractive user-friendly Bordeaux and Leoville Las Cases is absolutely delicious and drinking beautifully now. Gamey nose with smoky, sweet blackcurrant fruit. The sweet, concentrated theme continues on the palate with some leathery, oaky and tobacco elements adding a good savoury dimension. Reviews.. ""Expressive aromas of smoked plum, roast coffee, nuts and game. Lush, dense and smooth; currant, cedar and leather flavors are more primary than those of the above wine. Finishes with rich, smooth tannins. Lovely wine."" Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar (July/Aug 2000)

Clearly outstanding. Lots of berry, violet and vanilla character. Full-bodied, with extremely silky, polished tannins and a long, minty, mineral aftertaste. Gorgeous. Drink now. 15,000 cases made. (JS) Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1997 Leoville-Las Cases 750ml
