The perfect gift for the Zin-lover on your list! PRICED AS A set, ONLY $80 A set FOR THIS ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME ZIN-EXPERIENCE!! You get one bottle each of two unique styles of Zinfandel. The 2005 is not your brother's Zinfandel. It is very food-friendly, a modest 13% alcohol, but with plenty of "legs" to show off its body. This wine goes great with tangy tomato-based sauces. The 2006 is a big, jammy 16% alcohol with loads of fruit! Together they demonstrate the full depth and breadth of the Zinfandel grape. Both are from the same vines, same wine-makers, and extremely limited production of less than 6 cases per vintage. Thus, there is a limit of two of these sets per customer (one for you and one for your gift list). 2006 is a Best-of-Appellation Sierra Foothills Gold Medal Winner. AS OF 5/05/08 ONLY 3 SETS REMAIN!
Most impressive wines are continuing to come from Chateau Leidigh, California's Most Exclusive Estate Winery. It is my belief that this two pack is Zin-fully addictive and will be sold out before you know it. The 2005 blows you away with a nose packed full of Bing cherries and a hint of my favorite candy - Swedish Fish. It lightly strokes your palate by keeping the tannins under control and allowing the fruit to balance them out. This is not a punch in the face, but a kiss on the cheek with lasting flavors of cassis and dried cranberries. The 2006 is just as pleasing though totally different. It reaches out to me from the glass with notes of chocolate covered espresso beans and a hint of creme fraiche. Lightly sweet up front like sugar plums dancing in my head it rolls into cinnamon and nutmeg on the mid palate and finishes with a low bow. Indeed a performance worthy of the standing ovation.
Like mentioned in the other review, the '05 Zin smell action sensation is so sweet and inviting with it's watermelon jolly rancher aroma I'm spellbound! It's fruity, precocious, and sugary delicious! Guess what: the taste takes that sensation and ups the ante by delivering all the way with an additional spattering of warmth, hint of spice and a tiny bit of raisin. WHOA! Amazing. The '06 Zin smells more buttery, with a focus on cherry and plum, the taste is similar to the aroma with a chalky component and warmth from the 16% alcohol. Great concept! '05 wins this round, but we'll see if Leidigh has any other tricks up their sleeve for our delight.
