Chateau le Fourneau 1990

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/124497 for £15.Saint Estephe is a Bordeaux appellation that was created in 1936 [although viticulture in the area goes back centuries] for red wines only from the single commune around the village of that name in the north of the Medoc peninsular.I have been unable to discover much about Chateau le Fourneau beyond the fact that it is owned by the Marquis de Saint Estephe co-operative group although the bottle label states that it was bottled at the property.I do not know the precise cepagement.I started my bottle last night with my supper of roast pork.In spite of its age,I initially thought it a little overtannic but after a couple of hours things had softened up and mellowed a little. There is some blackcurrant, bramble and blueberry style fruit with a hint of spice. In short, this is an OK wine that went well with the pork but I would not pay £15 again for it.
