A blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot, it displays an ethereal elegance allied with substantial flavor authority and intensity, seemingly regardless of vintage conditions. Full medium ruby. Lovely cabernet franc perfume to the aromas of dark raspberry, graphite, flowers and licorice. Chewy, layered and sweet but tightly wound, with strong minerality and vibrant florality enlivening the middle palate. This really spr... Stephen Tanzers IWC. This wine, made almost entirely of Cabernet Franc, shows the grape's great success in 2003. Has intoxicating perfumes and solid structure.(Wine Enthusiast)
This is raisiny and slightly cooked on the nose, with loads of fruit. Full-bodied, with a slightly overdone character. Chocolate, coffee and raisin aftertaste. Rustic really. Best after 2009. 1,000 cases made. by Wine Spectator An impressive
Jonathan Maltus, the dynamic producer of Le Dome is a Bordeaux newcomer who fervently believes that great terroir is essential to making great wine. The grapes for Le Dome come from his single vineyard on the hillside adjacent to Chateau L’Angelus. The vines were planted in the 50’s and undergo three green harvests to limit the already naturally low yields. Le Dome represents the highest manifestation of Cabernet Franc in any top level Bordeaux wine at 75%. Blended with 25% Merlot, the hand selected grapes are double triaged before crushing. In short no expense is spared to produce this extraordinary wine. And of course the most exceptional thing about Le Dome is that a mere 400 cases are produced, which when compared to First Growths like Ausone (1,500 cases) and Cheval Blanc (5,000 cases), is microscopic. Robert Parker scored this wine 93 points and said: “While quintessentially elegant, it is surprisingly powerful with an ethereal perfume of blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with notes of violets and spice box. Savory, expansive, round, deep, and richly fruity, it is a medium-bodied, long, supple, evolved St.-Emilion to consume over the next 10-15 years. " Extremely limited!
