What to Expect

Arguably the most renowned wines on earth, the classed growths of Bordeaux continue to epitomize the power and complexity Bordeaux blends are capable of. While most wines here are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, both Merlot and Cabernet Franc play important roles in adding layered complexity to the finished wines, and allow winemakers in each commune within the region to use the blend that is best suited to their unique combination of soil and meso-climate. The most famous communes each have their own classic traits with St. Estephe giving full, if rustic wines, from the heavy clay soils, to Paulliac's elegant balance of ripe fruits, minerality and structure to St. Julien's rich blackberry core and supple feel. Moving to the South of the region brings one to Margaux, with its notes of flowers and berries draped over a feminine frame, and then to the Graves region with wines redolent of tobacco, gravel and smoke. To the East lies the famous appellations of St. Emillion, with its wonderfully ripe Cabernet Franc, and Pomerol where Merlot rules the roost and produces deep, plush wines of uncommon refinement.

Winemakers Notes

"...The dense, opaque garnet-colored 1982 Latour reveals slight amber at theedge. Sweet, smoky, roasted aromas in the nose combine with jammy levels ofblack currant, cherry, and prune-like fruit. It possesses extraordinaryconcentration and unctuosity, with a thick, fat texture oozing notes of cedarwood, tobacco, coffee, and over-ripe fruit. Low acidity as well as high alcohol(for Bordeaux) give the wine even more glycerin and textural chewiness. Thefinish lasts forever. The only Latour that remotely resembles the 1982 is the1961, which has a similar texture and succulence. read more...

Berry Bros & Rudd review: It is an amazing wine, and on several occasions, I have actually picked it as aright bank Pomerol because of the lushness and succulence of the cedary, blackberry, black currant fruit. This vintage has always tasted great, even inits youth, and revealed a precociousness that one does not associate with thisChateau.

...Liqueur-like aromas of plum, roasted meat, mocha, tobacco, truffle and burnished oak. Fat, lush and smooth, with explosive fruit and powerful underlying backbone. Massive but not at all heavy. Wonderfully tactile wine, finishing with big, chewy-bu... Stephen Tanzer. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1982 Latour, Chateau 750ml

Berry Bros & Rudd review: However, the 1982 is still evolving at a glacial pace. The concentrationremains remarkable, and the wine is a full-bodied, exuberant, rich, classicPauillac in its aromatic and flavor profiles. It's just juiced up(similar to an athlete on steroids) and is all the better for it. Thisremarkable effort will last as long as the 1982 Mouton, but it has always beenmore approachable and decadently fruity. Drink it now, in 20 years, and in 50years! Don't miss it if you are a wine lover.(Robert Parker - Wine Advocate - Jun-2009)
