Chateau Lascombes(2002)
The 2002 picking started on September 27 and ended on
October 8. The growing season had been particularly cold
and dry in the winter months, followed by a cool, wet spring.
These conditions had an adverse effect on the flowering
process and led to coulure (aborted setting of the fruit),
millerandage (stunted growth of the berries) and a significant
decrease in yield. The unsettled summer weather that followed
did not augur well for the vintage. Fortunately, September
and October came to the rescue with exceptionally hot, sunny
weather.
