Chateau l'Arrosee St. Emilion 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

"This outstanding l’Arrosee is consistent with the Burgundian style that this terroir routinely produces. Never massive, at its best it offers intense flavors of kirsch, raspberry, crushed rock, and spice box. The full-bodied flavors are ethereal in their delicacy. Full, but stylish, precise, intense, and never heavy, this beauty can be drunk early or cellared for two decades or more...92-94" WA 04/10

Chateau I'Arrosee has a character with two clearly defined special features. Firstly, the domain is unusual in having two types of land. Part of the vineyard is planted on the sheltered slope to the south west of Saint-Emilion and has the maximum exposure to the sun. This situation is ideal for helping to ensure that the grapes are perfectly mature when they are harvested and the chalky clay soil provides a balanced supply of water and minerals for the vines. The other part of the vineyard lies at the foot of the slope where it is hotter. Having the two types of soil increases the chances of obtaining a very good grape compared with a land with a single type of soil. Another particularity is that the merlot grape variety is blended with 20% cabernet franc and. unusually. 20% cabernet sauvignon. Cabernet sauvignon. the great vine of the Medoc region, is not usually planted on clay soils but grows easily here where it is exposed to full sun. Read less
