Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion Red Bordeaux Blend Pessac-Léognan 2011
Smoky and earthy on the nose with herbaceous tones giving this a stemmy quality and leathery notes to the fruit – elevated acids make this tart, light bodied, a bit neutral on the palate, soft tannins, clean finish, fairly fruity, stemmy tannins, a bit short, obviously quite fruit driven (85-86)Add winemaker's notes

a beautiful nose, just stunning, with perfume of flowers and red fruits. The entry is very nice and classy, but from there it shows its weakensss. Nice black berries and with a bit of cool menthol, it 's a bit lean, and short. With more air a bit of cream comes in, but a bit light and not very complex. Still, when finding this wine for under $25, one can get a flash of fair pleasure on the nose and enrty that has more in common with a high class wine, and that is worth the price of this admission alone.
Un-decanted bottle. Nose had a thin graphite/smoke layer on top of fruit and a hint of floral and maybe herb. Reasonable integration and balance among elements at this time with medium acid and not obivous tannins. Sour almost ripe fruit (black cherry, and other), a bit watery in the mid-palate and finish, with a touch of bitterness. Medium-length finish faded through some oak and tobacco and back to fruit with a slight pleasant bitterness. Medium or lighter body. Dry.
Beautiful balance and integration between spices, fruit, acid, and tannin. Medium-light body. Cocoa and coffee notes. Very elegant.
Soft nose with just a whisper of wet wool. Thin and sour in the mouth. Disappointing.
I must confess that the 87 points is not enough for this excellent wine. The bottle I tried was way over 90. Ripe yellow with symbiosis like texture in a pleasant and tastefull way.
Had this a couple months ago. I don't remember specifics, but I know it was a great bottle of wine on a great night. It ranks highly in my memory.

Because of both time and space constraints, I am not able to provide tasting notes for the 2009 dry white Bordeaux, but it is an extremely strong vintage. 75% sauvignon blanc and 25% semillon aged for 9 months in new oak. The modern style of this white Bordeaux works quite well with this vintage.
