Château l'Ancien Lalande-de-Pomerol 2009

Member Review by rhonegeek:

drank in 2010 it had a deep intense color with aromas of cassis, dark cherry and ripe mulberry. Took 1 hour to open but was spectaculay when it did. Long lingering finnish that made us wish we had another bottle.

In the years since, we have continued our pursuit of those rare and special plots where Pinot Noir can rise from grHaynes__Mteat to sublime. We have added to our pursuit of Pinot Noir, the production of its close relative, Pinot Gris, as well as its Burgundian sibling, Chardonnay. For both of these white wines, we closely follow the French artisanal tradition of in-barrel fermentation and aging. Read less

The owners of Chacirc;teau Garraud also own this property, and make this wine at their chacirc;teaux, the cleanest, most meticulously organized one wersquo;ve ever seen. The wine is juicy but extremely well-balanced, with good acidity, some new wood flavors, and a long finish. The winemaker thinks it will develop in bottle for 10ndash;12 years and then plateau for a long time.

Toasty aromatics lead into a fresh palate with richness and complexity. Delicious chunky fruit, very expressive Merlot. 2–10 years.

Intense color, purple highlights. Concentrated nose of ripe red and black fruits intermingled with a toasty, chocolaty note. Dense in the mouth, the tannins are present, enveloped by fatness and freshness. A concentrated style from this generous vintage that speaks for itself. Nice length. Optimum drinking: 2006–2007.

A right bank red for a powerful vintage. Try this rich and robust wine with grilled lamb or beef brisket.
