Chateau Lamothe Bordeaux 2013

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought three bottles of this wine in a fancy wooden presentation box for the princely sum of £12.50 on www.bidforwine.co.uk.It is from the Premier Cotes de Bordeaux Appellation .Yesterday I decided to open one because I could not wait to find out what it was like.I do not drink 25 year old wine every day.At first I thought it might be corked because the cork was in very poor condition, soaked in wine and very soft and almost crumbly but the seal over the cork was in good condition. In fact the wine itself was also in very good condition. It was in fact a very good claret indeed. It was very smooth and yet I could still taste fruit. It is a typical right bank claret being about 70%merlot.Like most red wines the second half of the bottle was even better the following day although unusually the last glass contained about 1/4 inch of sediment.Perhaps I should have used a decanter.I have decided that this was extremely good value for money and it is a pity I only have two bottles left

Sauvignon Blanc (40%), Semillon (40%), and Muscadelle (20%). This blend, based on ancient tradition, is rare in Bordeaux these days
