Château Lafon-Rochet Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"A light blackberry nose, quite leafy and with a little greenness. The palate is medium-bodied, lacking a little fruit concentration in the middle with a masculine, foursquare, slightly leafy finish. Lacks some depth and length but develops some freshness on the crisp finish. Tasted April 2008..." -Neil Martin WA

The origin of the “Rochet” name lies quite obviously in the word “roches”, as in the “rocks” that make up the soil of the Lafon-Rochet domain. Over the course of thousands of years, crumbling rocks from the far-off Massif Central and Pyrenee mountains were ferried by the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, eroded into pebbles and deposited in the limestone subsoil of Saint-Estèphe, creating a landscape of gentle, well-drained hills featuring a deep layer of gravel. The Lafon-Rochet domain sits on soil covered by a layer of gravel dating back to the period formerly know as the Quaternary (Günz) and features a mixture of quartz, gritstone, silex, volcanic lydianite, millstone grit, sand and clay. The diverse composition of its gravel layer combined with its excellent natural drainage system make the Lafon-Rochet domain a truly exceptional terroir. With its vast estate of 40 hectares, the Château Lafon-Rochet is one of the great ambassadors of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Ideally situated between the Lafite-Rothschild and Cos d’Estournel properties, it can proudly boast of its prime location in one of the world’s most prestigious winegrowing neighborhoods. Read less

Chalk dust, pencil lead, spicy red fruits, wild raspberry with a touch of bramble – nice plush entry, good focus with ripe red fruits, nicely earthy mid-palate, tannins build on the back end with layered fruit and mineral notes, tannins are crisp and offer nice bite in the mouth but cut the finish a bit short, very solid though (89-90)

Must drink now. If tried before, you need to forget the taste. 7 years in celler.... I tried every single bottle every year. To tell the truth, all was very much disapointing... However, it is the right time to dring 2007 vintage now (2015) Close to full body, very thick tannin, mild black current, thick black berry, smoky, very stong complex aroma... After hours, all stays even better and stronger. After continuous disppointment, it is the right time to enjoy now. (lamb chop or expired cheese will be excellent choice to dring with.

(60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot) Bright ruby-red. Pungent, musky aromas of black cherry, licorice and shoe polish lifted by a violet topnote. Juicy and sweet but also firmly built, with decent purity of frui... Stephen Tanzer. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2007 Lafon Rochet 750ml
