Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Thanks to Mike S. for sharing about 3 and a half oz of this vintage with me. Well decanted bottle that continued to evolve over the hours. Classic bordeaux. Nose of dark fruit, earth or compost, leather, mineral. Fruit was dry, ripe, chewy, and deep ... multiple layers of fruit that entered and dominated on the attack through the mid-palate and right on through the finish. Fruit was quite ripe (not spoilt) dark plum, cherry, blackberry and/or black currant, and some deep apple taste. Tannins were big but not harsh or fuzzy. Finish of the deep dry fruit and almost a metallic hum, perhaps iron. A very tame and sophisticated wine. Medium plus body, medium acid, medium plus tannins, dry. Delicious.

This beautiful, stunningly dense purple-colored effort (includes about 90% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers up precise notes of graphite, black cherries, cassis, scorched earth, and minerals. Medium to full-bodied with fabulous fruit, impressive richness, refreshing acidity, and sweet tannin, this beauty should be approachable in 4-5 years, and last for three decades. As Lafite Rothschilds go, this is somewhat of a sleeper vintage

Only 40% of the crop made it into the 2004 grand vin, which is the antithesis of the opulent, powerful, concentrated 2003. The linear, elegant 2004 is a classic Lafite, revealing cassis, raspberry, gr... Robert Parker. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2004 Lafite-Rothschild 375ml

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry Bros & Rudd review: Only 39% of production was used for the Grand Vin and with a whopping 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend (the balance being 9% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot) the 2004 Lafite needed little introduction. This wine has one of the most exciting noses - intense, spicy, pure cassis and a generous helping of creamy vanilla. The palate is just as exciting, exhibiting terrific concentration and a hint of warm new oak which leads to an intense, linear core of lively blackcurrants and layers of intriguing minerality. The Cabernet was very evident on the finish with the varietys characteristically firm tannins taking over at the end, making this one for the long term.
