New World Cabernet from an ancient terroir. Simultaneously buoyant and brooding, purple-black in the glass with smoky aromas, a mineral vein runs through copious blueberry, cassis, and red plum fruits. Lavishly extracted texture rests on a stony tannic structure mirroring Seneca Lake's steely waters lapping on shale stone shores. The 1999 Owner's Reserve, hand selected and crafted by gold medalist winemaker, Tim Miller, makes its debut. For three years I have toured wineries, searching for the quintessential Finger Lakes red. In the spring of 2001 Ed, Burt and I tasted this Cabernet in the barrel and we have been keeping tabs on it ever since. Premier has a tradition of promoting the small winery, bringing innovative delicious discoveries to our customers. We have a new insignia, with all our names on it - welcome to the reserve room New York.

Has a load of applewood smoked bacon aroma up front, but there's enough black cherry and currant fruit coming through. Fleshy mouthfeel, with muscular tannins carrying the finish. Drink now.

Good Cabernet character all around. The nose is spicy and full, with tobacco, pepper and red berry fruit to start. On the palate, good tannic structure and a balance of big fruit, leather/tobacco and acid offer ageability and finesse. A good food wine - pair it with grilled beef this summer.

This is the kind of elegant wine one expects from Chateau Lafayette, with its flirtation of mint, chocolate and soft pepper on the nose, and its integrated berry and spice flavors on the palate. Smooth but sturdy tannins and a long finish seal the deal.
