Wine Spectator Lots of currant and light raisin, with hints of toasted oak. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Big and juicy wine. Well done for this estate. Best in a long time. Score range: 89-91 –JS Score: 91.

A property dating from the 13th century, La Tour de Mons was purchased by investors in 1995, and they undertook a substantial renovation of the chais and installed new drainage in the vineyards. Plantings are 48% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 6% Cabernet Franc. The chateau produces a highly reliable example of the elegant, fragrant style (called la tradition margalaise in French) that has given Margaux its reputation. The '05 offers a ripe, soft black fruit aroma and soft, ripe entry on the palate, a silky center, and clean acid frame. Medium weight, it is well balanced and has notable poise and elegance. It will be approachable early and will develop over 6-9 years or more of cellaring. Very good value.
