What to Expect

The great sweet wines of Bordeaux, Sauternes, are among the most decadent, complex and simply enjoyable wines. Based on a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc that has been infected with the "noble rot", Botrytis Cinerea, Sauternes are rich, honied wines bursting with notes of vanilla, coconut, dried apricots and subtle spice tones. They are usually very sweet and rich with a soft quality to them that makes them appealing in their youth yet they can age and improve for decades. The neighboring village of Barsac frequently makes wines comparable to those of Sauternes.

Winemakers Notes

This is a luxurious opulent Tour Blanche, one of the stars of the vintage witha singing 147g of residual sugar - full yellow in colour, with a ripe, richbotrytis bouquet, thickly textured on the palate, beautifully sensuous andexceptionally long. A star performance.

La Tour Blanche - Sauternes FUTURES

This consistently fabulous Sauternes estate takes the utmost care in the vineyards and the cellar, restricting yields and sorting meticulously. Lesser grapes are declassified to the estate's second label and all that they produce sees the inside of a barrel for at least one year. A bottle to buy with confidence.

Jancis

Rating: 19/20 - As reviewed by Jancis Robinson Very dark coppery/bronze colour. Relatively simple honeyed nose. Then masses of rich, ripe almost tropical fruit flavoured sweetness. Absolutely enormous! Extremely ambitious with a slightly burnt note. Great texture. All on the finish rather than upfront. Some very fine tannins on the very end. Set for a very long life. Very rich and round and supple. Astringency very well hidden underneath.
