Château la Sauvageonne Coteaux du Languedoc les Ruffes Coteaux du Languedoc 2007

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

The 2007 Coteaux du Languedoc Les Ruffles mdash; as usual, a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carigan, and Cinsault mdash; smells of wood smoke, soy, and dried cherries. Sappy and bright on the palate, and with considerable richness, its persistent smokiness and salinity is augmented by a dusty aura of crushed stone. There is a faint trace of heat in the finish but otherwise a convincing persistence in what must count as an excellent value for enjoying over the next couple of years.

This rich, refined red is very pure-tasting, showing mineral, smoke, dried cherry and sandalwood flavors, with powerful undercurrents of currant and French roast. The long finish echoes spice and roasted meat. Best from 2009 through 2014.
