Château la Mission-Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

"Deliciously concentrated fruit, which shows considerable power and ripeness. Yellow fruits, spice from new wood and richness are already combining well. And just as a reminder that this has Sauvignon Blanc in the blend, there is a touch of fresh herbaceousness at the end."Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar91-94 points*We will notify you on arrival Fall 2011.*

Château La Mission Haut-brion:
When the wine is young, the initial sensation is its unctuousness, the softness of a very ripe grape, the freshness of aromas and at the same time the texture of very special tanins. These meld with a trace of mineral in the wine. It is as if the land was in the glass, comprising notes of roasted coffee beans, cocoa and tobacco. This delicate bitterness is somewhat reminiscent of crystallized cherry-stones seeped in spirit. It is certainly a penchant for revealing all its qualities at once that distinguishes the wines of La Mission and pleases a lot of tasters. It is also the consummate expression of the land of the Graves of Pessac. When maturing, this wine is still generous, openly proffering all its qualities. This hedonistic side is one of its most attractive particularities. Read less

Purple and intense color. Nose appearing a bit discreet yet fine and fruity. On the palate the wine shows structure yet also some rusticity and a good weaving. With good presence in the mid-palate it evolves rich and also tannic. And yet it has not press wine. Nice aromatic and distinguished length. Jean-Marc Quarin - www.quarin.com

41% Merlot; 50% Cabernet Sauvignon; 9% Cab Franc The wine starts out with fresh wood, and new oak. Flavors of bakers chocolate and coco powder. For a wine of such weight and depth, it had a surprisingly short finish. David Derby. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 Haut Brion 6000ml

Wonderful finesse and length to this wine. Loads of plum and berry, with hints of raspberry. Full-bodied, with a solid, velvety core of ripe fruit and tannins. Long finish. One of the few Pessacs better in 2000 than 1998. American-owned. Best after 2010.

For the vintage, this is an austere wine, emphasizing tannins over fruit. the fruit is certainly rich, and the tannins are dusty rather than dry, but it is a wine that is developing more slowly, suggesting it is also a long-term cellar candidate.

Good bright ruby red. Deep, smoky aromas of plum syrup, raspberry, tobacco, iron and roasted nuts. Lush, silky and sweet, with insidious vinosity keeping the lush plum and tobacco flavors fresh and delineated. The suave Merlot tannins spread out to cover the entire palate. Much more a Merlot-dominated wine than the 2001, which is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon.
