What to Expect

Arguably the most renowned wines on earth, the classed growths of Bordeaux continue to epitomize the power and complexity Bordeaux blends are capable of. While most wines here are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, both Merlot and Cabernet Franc play important roles in adding layered complexity to the finished wines, and allow winemakers in each commune within the region to use the blend that is best suited to their unique combination of soil and meso-climate. The most famous communes each have their own classic traits with St. Estephe giving full, if rustic wines, from the heavy clay soils, to Paulliac's elegant balance of ripe fruits, minerality and structure to St. Julien's rich blackberry core and supple feel. Moving to the South of the region brings one to Margaux, with its notes of flowers and berries draped over a feminine frame, and then to the Graves region with wines redolent of tobacco, gravel and smoke. To the East lies the famous appellations of St. Emillion, with its wonderfully ripe Cabernet Franc, and Pomerol where Merlot rules the roost and produces deep, plush wines of uncommon refinement.

Reviews

This opaque ruby/purple-colored 2000 exhibits plenty of earthy, black currant, vanilla, graphite, licorice, and smoky cherry aromas as well as flavors. Medium-bodied with sweet tannin, good acidity, and a long, concentrated finish, this is the finest La Louviere since the 1990. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015. - Wine Advocate

I have 1 bottle from a small stash I am proud to have of a few select. I am happy to read the above review....I will hold on to it a bit longer. Don't want to rush it. Good rating by W. Spectator and worth the patience, I suspect. Thanks for the site.

Have had 2 bottles tonite for dinner with two other people. We all loved this bottle, and look forward to the last 2 that we have in the wine cellar. We had pork loin and pasta in garlic/oil. Have a nice week.

Strong, supple left bank claret. I got a case of this as futures, sight unseen (I was feeling flush). I finally dared to open a bottle in 2005, and was surprised at how young it tasted - a mouthful of blackberries and bright, red fruit. Since then it's gotten better & better - I have about 6 bottles left, and I hope to enjoy the last one after 2010.
