Château la Lagune Red Bordeaux Blend Haut-Médoc 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Château La Lagune is the southernmost classed growth of all the Médoc and one of just five classed in the 1855 classification which lie outside the main communes of St Estèphe, St Julien, Pauillac and Margaux. Château La Lagune has ridden the vicissitudes of fashion that have swept over the Medoc in the past 30 years. Now owned by Champagne Ayala, La Lagune has seen a return to form, brought about by lower yields and better work in the vineyard. Robert Parker scores this wine 91 points: "Having just had the 2005 La Lagune, which I think is the greatest La Lagune I have ever tasted, the 2006 certainly loses some prestige in comparison, but this is an outstanding wine and further evidence of just how strong this estate’s wines have become. Sweet plum and red and black currant fruit, intermixed with notes of resiny pine forest and forest floor as well as a hint of barrique, are followed by a wine with gorgeous depth, an attractive, medium-bodied texture, a fresh, poised personality, and a moderately long finish. This is another beauty, not weighty, but pure, savory, and capable of lasting 15 or more years, although it is accessible already."

Smoky nose with hints of anise. Sweet currant and black fruit on the palate. Some of the anise from the nose too. A very strong effort from La Lagune.

Wow, has this property come back with resounding quality over the last three or four years, producing wines that are better than anything they made during their glory days in the seventies and eightie... Robert Parker. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Lagune, La 6000ml

A moderately dense blackish red, La Lagune has a subtle, soft nose of red fruits with a tea leaf undertone. The wine is soft and sensual in the mouth, expressive and immediately appealing, ending with gentle tannins and an oak note. This is an attractive, forward and well-balanced Haut-Medoc and is a very good value. Robert Parker 91. Tasted January '09.

Floral and fruity, with medium body, silky tannins and a medium finish. Needs a bit more on the midpalate. Clean. Score range: 85-88 -JS Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2006 Lagune, La 750ml
