Relatively pale. Lightweight, but serious nose with interesting terroir nuance. Very positive impact on the palate. One of the best Haut Médoc 2001s by quite a margin. A wine that already has a beginning, middle and end to it.

Still very pale and lightweight. I think I was too indulgent to this wine simply in reaction to all its overwrought peers. Quite refreshing and definitely not exaggerated but no a great thrill!

"This 2001 (“The Vintage of Excellence”) is Bordeaux in colour, sporting notes of fresh mint and green coffee that marries well with its liquorice and grilled meat aromas. On the palate there is a firm masculine attack and sculpted tannins wrapped in a mellow suppleness. Black cherries abound, with cedar and some violet floral notes."
