Château la Gaffelière Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

"This very strong effort achieved 14.5% natural alcohol in this vintage, and is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. This wine is looked after by Stephane Derenoncourt, who has turned out a beautifully elegant, dark plum/purple-colored 2008 with notes of black cherries, blackberries, damp earth, truffle, and a hint of spicy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, with sweet tannin and a long, rich finish, this impressively endowed wine should hit its peak in 4-5 years and last for two decades or more...91" WA 05/11 "Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, bitter chocolate and mint on the nose. Rich and juicy, with lovely definition to the flavors of blueberry, violet, minerals and exotic spices. Finishes with dusty but ripe tannins and excellent mineral-driven persistence. Very nicely done...90" IWC 08/11 "This has a nicely wound core of cherry sauce, plum and blackberry fruit, wrapped with melted licorice, sweet spice and a flash of black tea. Pure, ripe fruit takes a nice encore on the fresh finish...90" WS 04/11

Chateau Gaffeliere:

The whole favourably south oriented, receives an ideal sunshine which benefits to the 35 years old vine. Hillsides are clayey and calcareous, whereas hill-feet are more siliceous. The vineyard is planted with 80% of Merlot, 10% of Cabernet Franc and 10 % of Cabernet Sauvignon.

A beautiful deep purple color as well as sweet aromas of incense, charcoal, black fruits, and a hint of black truffles are found in this deep, medium to full-bodied 2008. With pure fruit, good acids, and finely grained, ripe, well-integrated tannins,... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 La Gaffeliere 750ml
