Château la Croix Bonneau Montagne Saint-Émilion 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Chateau La Croix Bonneau is a modest property of 4 hectares in Montagne, the village just to the north of Saint-Emilion. It was bought in 2005 by Eric Salmon and his family, and from the outset their aim was to improve quality in the small vineyard and cellar. The clay soil of the Montagne Saint-Emilion appellation gives generous fruit wines which tend to be more forward in their youth than those from Saint-Emilion. Eric capitalised on this generosity and reduced yields to increase ripeness even more. Deep red in colour, La Croix Bonneau is a blend of 95% Merlot, which gives spice, damson fruit and cassis aromas, plus 5% Cabernet Franc to give firm tannins and a touch of red berry flavour on the palate. Ageing in top quality French oak barrels has given a complex, mellow, long finish without overpowering the juiciness of the Merlot fruit.
