Château la Conseillante Red Bordeaux Blend Pomerol 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry Bros & Rudd review: Jean-Michel Laporte describes his 2009 as "a real Conseillante"<br/>- soft, silky, long and sopisticated. We completely agree; this is<br/>superb. The wine brims with elegant damson fruit, an intriguing note of<br/>eucalyptus and wave upon wave of multi-layered complexity. A higher than usual<br/>addition of Cabernet Franc in the blend (19%) has resulted in beautiful<br/>freshness, with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious, crunchy finish. This is<br/>clearly one of the top wines of the vintage.

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Densely rich, very sweet wine. It has some smoky tannins that give structure, along with a dark core of dry raisin and wood flavors. It has concentration and an opaque texture. Wine Enthusiast. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Conseillante, La 750ml

Blackberries, violets and licorice, with hints of lavender. Full body, with phenomenal texture of ultra-fine tannins and subtle and intriguing fruit character. Goes on for minutes. Try in 2020. James Suckling. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Conseillante, La 750ml

Five generations of the Nicolas family have contributed to La Conseillante's stellar reputation since 1871.The estate is located on the highest part of the Pomerol plateau. The soil in the northern part, next to Pétrus, consists largely of clay and that in the southern part, bordering on Cheval Blanc, is primarily clay-gravel. The grape varieties are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Everything possible is done in the vineyard to produce low yields of ripe, healthy grapes. Picking is done exclusively by hand at peak ripeness. Fermented in a modern vat room, but in keeping with traditional winemaking methods, Château La Conseillante is aged in 100% new oak barrels in great vintages, 80% in other years. La Coneillante's terroir exemplifies the full, round, creamy, velvety, and very smooth qualities of Merlot, while Cabernet Franc contributes red fruit and truffle aromas. This great estate makes wine that achieves a perfect harmony between elegance and power.

The competition between the 2009 2005 and 2000 La Conseillante will be interesting to follow over the next twenty years. There was more of a selection process at this estate in 2009 than there was in 2000 resulting in a beautiful Pomerol offering notes of mulberries sweet cherries spring flowers raspberries and truffles. The color is a healthy deep plum/ruby/purple and the wine is medium to full-bodied with silky tannins a broad layered mouthfeel and wonderful freshness as well as length. This gorgeous complex Burgundian-styled Pomerol will be drinkable in 4-6 years and should keep for 30-40. (The 1970 is still alive and that was not nearly as well made as the 2009.) Bright ruby-red. Knockout perfume of red berries dark cherry minerals flowers licorice tobacco and tarragon complemented by sexy sweet oak. Suave glossy and silky but given energy and lift by its cabernet franc component. Captivating vanilla coconut and spice notes add complexity and lift to the vibrant fruit flavors. No excessive sweetness here. Still a baby but already boasts lovely early balance. Wonderfully smooth Pomerol with terrific finishing lift. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
