Chateau Jordi Moulis-En-Medoc 1989

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought two bottles of this wine for £20 from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/134251. Moulis is a small appellation created in 1938,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, for red wines from the commune of that name located about 20 miles north of the City of Bordeaux. My bottle comes from a small [7 hectare ] family concern and consists of 73% merlot,25% cabernet sauvignon and 2% petit verdot. This is an estate of old vines, over half of them being pre-war,and where the wine spends time in oak barrels 50% new.I started my bottle last night with my beef stew. There is plenty of a fresh blackcurrant and plum style fruit with a hint of vanilla and spice. The tannins were soft and smooth yet it was full bodied and well structured. In short, this is a beautiful claret that did not show its age at all and one that would probably pair with many foods

Chateau Jordi:
This is an estate of 7 hectares  spread over several plots that has been owned and run by Guy Coubris since 1984 and been in his family for generations before that. The estate has some very old vines over half of which are pre-war and production is only around 35,000 bottles per year many of which are exported to China
