11/7/2012 - MIKEAUKENBALS WROTE: 91 Points great QPR. not sure i'd buy any to cellar, but good pop and pour especially for friends who aren't into more eccentric, unique wines. could pass for a $50 bordeaux. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Although maybe it would have been better if I had tasted it out of a glass: it was served in a plastic cup at a wine store for tasting. Do you find this review helpful? If this is the indication of 2009 then i cannot wait to try to classified cru... Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comment Options 9/2/2012 - UCBEAU WROTE: 89 Points Opened about an hour prior to tasting. Interesting nose of black soil, currant, spices, and green pepper. The bouquet is a bit disjointed still, perhaps indicating several more years of cellaring are needed. It's got a lot of tannin up front and a slightly hollow mid-palate, but the finish rushes back into play with gorgeous flavors of cedar, tobacco, coffee, black currant, and dusty soil. Impressive complexity for such an inexpensive Bordeaux. Wish I'd purchased more from Garagiste, I could see this becoming a 90+ point wine in a few years.

The Merlot-based Château Haut Surget is a perennial Astor favorite. Vintage to vintage, this red Bordeaux consistently shows exceptional concentration and dense black fruit.
