Chateau Haut Selve Graves Red 2015

External Review:

Here’s a wood-aged wine, with peach and pineapple flavors and a rich, round mouthfeel. It has a lighter side, with ample, crisp acidity and the poise of the white wines of 2012. You could drink it now, but better to wait until 2014.

Plums, cherries and blackberries on the nose. A nice warmth to the weight and body - thick fruity cherry flavors. Vanilla and free tannins on the extended finish.

I fell in love with this wine. One of my few 5's. Lots of oak, but very well balanced with lychee's and stone fruits.

Meaty, rich and over extracted red - there was some nice fruit (plums and bramble fruits with blackberries dominating), and a subtle leather character. However, the fruit was over extracted and the dominant flavor on the finish was licorice. I believe the bottle was slightly corked, so have not scored the wine.

Plump, offering pineapple pulp, plantain, straw and white peach notes, with a lightly toasted hint on the finish. Drink now.

Complex, with aromas of white fruits, toast and honey.

A nose filled of red fruits and woody aromas with vanilla and roasted notes. The mouth is round and well-balanced.

Smooth and soft, with an attractive perfumed character layered with wood toast, pear and peach flavors and lively acidity. This is finely balanced, still young, worth aging another year.

This wine revels in the great lemon and apricot flavors of 2007. With just a touch of wood and spice to give extra structure, it dances crisply on the palate, good for apeacute;ritifs but also with food. This is a wine that is delicious, for its freshness, to drink now, but will certainly age over 2ndash;3 years.

Chandacirc;teau Haut-Selve is a stylish, modern winery that never loses sight of the balance and poise that are the seminal characteristics of the wines from their region. Their Graves Blanc is a sleek, delicious example of this sensibility. Mouthwatering, but with serious weight for a white of its price, this has aromas of peach and tangerine, complicated by subtle oak notes of toast, sandalwood, and nutmeg. This spent only 6 months in wood, and strikes a perfect middle ground between a fresh and clean Entre-Deux-Mers and a powerful, oak-driven traditional Graves.
