I bought just one lonesome bottle of this 1990 la mission haut brion back when i first started accumulating fine wines in the early 1990s, and alas when i opened it, it had been consumed by the action of brettanomyces, hollowing out the body of the wine, and turning it into a sweaty horse blanket of funk. Still one could tell it was a fine wine, but alas this bottle (and likely much of the vintage) has been ravaged by the action of this nefarious yeast which adores new French oak and feeds on cellulose among other sugars. Big disappointment.Watch out!

1990: In terms of the brilliant complexity and nobility of the aromatics, scorched earth, black currants, plums, charcoal, cedar, and spices, the 1990 offers an aromatic explosion that is unparalleled. It is always fascinating to taste this wine next... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1990 Haut Brion 750ml

Much more linear and firm than the 1989. Full- to medium-bodied with firm tannins and a racy finish. A fine wine. 89/ 90 Bordeaux non-blind horizontal. Drink now. (JS) Wine Spectator.

Haut-Brion has been the most consistent first-growth over the last decade...1990 proved itself to be a great wine. Its price has not risen nearly as much as one might expect given its quality. The 1990 is a decadently ripe wine with much more evoluti... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1990 Haut Brion 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry Bros & Rudd review: Deep red colour with hints of tawny at the rim. Very expressive bouquet, typical Graves earthy, warm tobacco leaf and cigar box. On the palate a real kernel of sweetness on the mid-palate, lovely texture in the mouth, very well balanced, fresh, with a long, exemplary finish. Ready to drink now with great pleasure but not in any way tiring.
