Another property that is harvested very late (September 23-October 17), the 2008 La Mission-Haut-Brion is a powerful, backward effort that is not yet fully expressing itself. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc, it re... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 Mission Haut Brion, La 1500ml
The 2008 exhibits superb minerality as well as the delicacy of a great culinary preparation, packed and stacked with flavor, yet light on its feet. The 2008 will compete, perhaps eclipse the sensational 2005 and 2006. A dense ruby/purple color is fol... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 Haut Bailly 750ml
Racy and slightly taut, with red currant and cherry pit notes laced with grilled herb and warm stone. Therersquo;s a sinewy edge on the finish, with more minerality than fruit for now, but this adds some flesh as it airs, showing subtle persistence. Drink now through 2016.
The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2001 Haut-Bailly reveals sweet, pure, elegant aromas of currants, toast, and cigar smoke. With wonderful sweetness, fine tannins, a delicate, nuanced personality, and a long, persistent finish, this well-made, impressive Pessac-Leognan will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 12ndash;14 years.
Coming joint second in our list of Left Bank First Growths in 2008 (along withMouton, with Ch. Latour in the lead) Ch. Haut-Brion seriously impressed us thisvintage. With a nose of dark, brambly spice this was evidently restrained butstill had layer upon layer of complex fruit character. The tannins wereassertive but coated in a fantastic ball of dark fruit that suggests they willmellow wonderfully with time. Only 35% of the total production went into theGrand Vin this year and with only 7,000 cases made, it is the smallestproduction since 1992. This is a rarity: buy up while you can.
