From the WineryThe 2006 vintage of La Parde de Haut-Bailly has a deep, bright, ruby-red colour and plenty of aromatic purity on the nose, showing hints of black fruit and well-integrated oak. It is fairly close to Chateau Haut-Bailly thanks to its elegant, well-focused style. With a refined, mild tannic structure, 2006 La Parde de Haut-Bailly is already quite accessible and will be in superb form in five to ten years.

Chateau Haut-Bailly is situated on the left bank of the River Garonne, south of Bordeaux  in the commune of  Pessac-Léognan –  home to all the Graves Crus Classés. The sloping terrain is well-graded and has excellent drainage. If great wine results from a harmonious relationship between man, the vine, and nature – a concept the French call terroir – the most subtle of these three elements is the soil. At Haut-Bailly, it is sandy, mixed with gravel, and rests on a subsoil of sandstone petrified with the remains of prehistoric fossil shells. All this contributes to the special character of Haut-Bailly wine. Read less

This is a strong vintage for Bordeaux�s dry white wines, probably as good or better than 2005. Crisp acidity combined with outstanding concentration and the fact that most of the white grapes were harvested before the rains began in mid-September resulted in an impressive group of wines.

It is always interesting to taste this wine next to its stablemate, Laville Haut-Brion. While Laville has 80% Semillon in it, giving it more fat and concentration, Haut-Brion is 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon. This is a crisp yet powerful wine, full-bodied, with great minerality and a subtle smokiness intermixed with hints of quince, white currant, orange skin, and lemon custard. Long, rich, and tightly knit, with good acidity and no evidence of any oak whatsoever despite the use of 100% new French oak, this wine is set for a long life as well.
