Château Haut-Bailly:

Chateau Haut-Bailly is situated on the left bank of the River Garonne, south of Bordeaux  in the commune of  Pessac-Léognan –  home to all the Graves Crus Classés. A vineyard with 30 hectares (74 acres) of planted vines on one piece of  land, it sits on a high ridge overlooking a small winding road leading from Leognan to Cadaujac. The sloping terrain is well-graded and has excellent drainage. If great wine results from a harmonious relationship between man, the vine, and nature – a concept the French call terroir – the most subtle of these three elements is the soil. At Haut-Bailly, it is sandy, mixed with gravel, and rests on a subsoil of sandstone petrified with the remains of prehistoric fossil shells. All this contributes to the special character of Haut-Bailly wine. Read less

A very austere start, soft and smooth, however, it built slowly to a beautiful finish. Tasted at the New York Wine Experience

Maybe I drank this too young? I just wasn't impressed.

Full bodied, long after taste that "echos". Has a complex texture and expandable palate.. Poultry and powerful nose, full and round with strawberry and cherry notes.. Hints of spice and "saltiness" with a finishing of marvelous desire for another gulp, not sip. To drink one of the Big Five, if I were you, I like to try another vintage. For this vintage, the finishing might be sexier shall the wine matures after 5-10 years from now. In Summary: Almost perfect, just the "finishing"

Chateau La Tour Haut Brion Pessac Leognan Full ruby-red. Inky black cherry and bitter chocolate aromas. Suave; strong acidity gives excellent flavor delineation. Bitter chocolate and black cherry are lifted by a floral element. Best on the long finish: impressive tannic structure.

Wonderful aromas of dried flowers, currant, berries and mineral. Full-bodied, yet reserved and refined. Lovely texture, with a pure silk feel. Seamless and beautiful. Great length. Even better than from barrel. Best after 2012. 12,500 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2004 Haut Brion 750ml

Good medium ruby. Blueberry and pungent minerality on the nose. Dense, pure and high-pitched; impressive for its definition and grip but not at all lacking in flesh. Finishes with chewy, gripping tannins and excellent length.
