What to Expect

The great sweet wines of Bordeaux, Sauternes, are among the most decadent, complex and simply enjoyable wines. Based on a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc that has been infected with the "noble rot", Botrytis Cinerea, Sauternes are rich, honied wines bursting with notes of vanilla, coconut, dried apricots and subtle spice tones. They are usually very sweet and rich with a soft quality to them that makes them appealing in their youth yet they can age and improve for decades. The neighboring village of Barsac frequently makes wines comparable to those of Sauternes.

Reviews

This Sauternes can be considered a young adult and gives you a sub-top quality wine for a very good price! Good balance between acids and sugars, subtle botrytis, but with less depth than the top of the class of this year. Easily accesible and certainly good for another 5-10 years!

The wine is sweet and rich but dances lightly on the palate. 100% Semillon. Truly great vintages in Sauternes occur fewer than three out of every ten years. As Monsieur Focke discovered, the ideal conditions for such a vintage are perfectly ripe grapes, dense fogs, ample humidity, read more...
