This wine was given to me as a gift for christmas (that I got to pick). The notes in the store said that blackberry and cassis were used in the creation of this wine, and since I really enjoy those I thought that was the bottle for me. When I first opened it the berries were really overpowering, but after a few minutes of opening up it was absolutely fantastic. I'd have to say it was one of the better wines that I have ever had due to its even and smooth taste. If I ever had the chance again I would definitely buy it store and try to resist drinking it!

The brilliant 2005 Grand-Puy-Lacoste exhibits classic Pauillac aromas and flavors of creme de cassis along with stony/floral notes. Proprietor Xavier Borie has created a wine that should rival the brilliant 1982, 1990, 1996, and 2000. Full-bodied with sweet tannin and superb length (a 40+ second finish), the purity of this beauty's black currant fruit is something to behold. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2030.

This wine has put on considerable weight and intensity since I tasted it last spring. It exhibits an opaque black/purple color, followed by an explosive nose of cassis fruit, licorice, and new oak. Full-bodied and dense, with superb richness and huge levels of extract and glycerin, this appears to be a great Grand-Puy-Lacoste that may rival the profound 1990 and 1982. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.

Dark ruby-red. Ripe, expressive nose combines cassis, roasted plum and coconut. Supple, very concentrated and large-scaled; actually rather backward today even if the terrific ripeness is clear to see. Quintessential firm Pauillac backbone is covered by flesh. Will rely more on its tongue-dusting tannins than its acidity to age in bottle. This wine firmed up noticeably during its second year in barrel.

Polished, scented, with wonderful fruit purity. Perfect balance. Classy. Nothing in excess. From 2020.

Another unbelievably rich, multidimensional, broad-shouldered wine, with slightly more elegance and less weight than the powerhouse 1996, this gorgeously proportioned, medium to full-bodied, fabulously ripe, rich, cassis-scented and flavored Grand-Puy-Lacoste is another beauty. It should be drinkable with 4-5 years and keep for 25-30. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025.
