I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/119973 for £24.50.Pauillac is an appellation created in 1936,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, for red wines from the commune of Pauillac and a few clearly marked parcels outside it. Pauillac is located on thje eastern side of the Medoc peninsular about 25 miles north of the City of Bordeaux and is one of the Bordeaux region's more prestigious appellations with a total of 18 classed growths including 3 first growths in the famous1855 classification of the Medoc.Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste was a 5th growth in that classification. My bottle of wine consists of 75% cabernet sauvignon,20% merlot and 5% cabernet franc and was aged for 18 months in oak barrels [50% new]. I started my bottle last night with my supper of roast pheasant. There is some blackcurrant and black cherry style fruit but there are also pronounced flavours of coffee, smoke or cigar box with some well structured tannins.ln short,in spite of its age this is still a quality bottle of wine

Unsmoked cigar tobacco intermixed with plums red and black currants presented in an evolved style characterize this dark plum/garnet-colored effort. Medium-bodied delicious and evolved it is best consumed over the next 10-12 years. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

(69% cabernet sauvignon 28% merlot and 3% cabernet franc) Medium-deep red. Inviting deep aromas of blackcurrant and ripe plum with a hint of licorice. Very appealing sweet black and red fruit flavors on the palate; shows a stiffer tannic spine than Haut Batailley from the same owner but the tannins are also smoother and riper. Finishes pleasantly long with an obvious cinnamon touch and very good balance. Another wine that may have been more successful in 08 than in either 06 or 07. -Ian D Agata Stephen Tanzers IWC.

The nose is driven by minerals clearly some graphite and lead mixing with notes of red berries cherry and tobacco. Smooth and sweet entry with nice balance and just the right amount of tannin on the lingering finish. John Perry.

Not a blockbuster such as the 2005 or 2000, the 2008 Grand Puy Lacoste is an elegant, deep ruby/purple-tinged, pretty Pauillac offering plenty of red and black currant fruit interwoven with touches of spice box and tobacco leaf characteristics.
