Château Gigault Red Bordeaux Blend Premières Côtes de Blaye 2011

Member Review by Nicki:

Tasted May 2008: This wine has 15%vol. alcohol and comes from at least 90% Merlot grapes -- the epitome of a modern wine on the right bank of the Gironde. The colour is a deep, yet not opaque garnet with a rim showing signs of maturation. The bouquet is big and full of juicy fruit, with ripe Merlot accents and some finesse. In the mouth a sweet wine, crammed with cherry fruit and a touch of strawberries, medium-bodied, rather alcoholic, yet with excellent purity, gorgeous freshness, silky tannins and not a touch of tar or other off-putting aromas. The aftertaste is firm, tannic and round, but with a very bitter finish of freshly-sawn oak. Apart from the finish, this is a technically outstanding wine, with the remarkable Blaye-fruitiness in evidence. Should be drunk slightly chilled and undoubtedly best with food. Drink now through 2011.
