Château Fougas Red Bordeaux Blend Côtes de Bourg Maldoror 2001

Member Review by Nicki:

Tasted November 2009. For a Côtes-de-Bourg this is really an outstanding wine. Still deeply-coloured, the wine only begins to show some ripening at the edge. The bouquet is dominated by ripe merlot (spiciness, olives, clove), the eucalyptus-like freshness of perfectly ripe cabernet and toasty new oak. In the mouth the wine is silky-textured, not fruity at all, but undeniably well-balanced. In the long finish there is still a lot of tannin in evidence, yet the tannin is very well integrated and the wine remains smooth and crisp in the mouth (technically outstanding). A serious, classy wine, for aficionados of right-bank Bordeaux wines. Very attractive price. Will last until 2014.
