Smoky, strawberry, resolved nose, nice thyme and bit of stem, bacon and pork fat. Soft, fairly opulent, lovely acid and mineral notes, this still has plenty of strawberry fruit and bright acids on the moderately long finish. Crisp and still snappy, lovely fruit. I really love the brightness here. The tannins are dusty and just under the fruit at this point. A bit of a one trick pony but nicely done, gets better with air, more red fruit emerges. 89pts

Rich plum on the palatte, not too dry or tannic, this is a very well-balanced wine, a bit over-priced.

The nose was pretty, showing a mix of ripe berries and bacon notes, along with floral stems with a hint of barnyard and old library book. On the palate, it was at first aggressive, then airy and soft showing focused red fruits and hint of old wood with balanced acidity keeping it juicy and fun. The finish was medium-long and still showed a bit of tannin.

Chateau Fortia is a symbolic estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhone region of France, both for its location and its roots that are closely linked to that of its appellation. Bruno Leroy de Boiseaumarie, the current proprietor and descendant of a family whose name is closely identified with the fight to establish appellations of origin. In 1929 due to the efforts of Baron Pierre Leroy, Chateauneuf du Pape became the first appellation with a set of winemaking regulations. However, Bruno Leroy does not rest on his laurels. Instead he strives to make people aware of his 30 hectare property and that of the appellation launched by his grandfather. Grapes : 61% Grenache, 27% Syrah, 13% Mourvèdre Region : France / Rhone / Chateauneuf-du-pape Maker : Pierre Pastre Notes : A softer, fruitier wine than the traditional cuvée. Well integrated tannins, juicy fruit and a long and elegant finish. A deeply coloured wine with aromas of raspberry and cherries and hints of liquorice. A rich concentrated palate with well integrated tannins and a long and elegant finish incorporating hints of spice. Serve : At room temperature to accompany strong flavoured meat dishes, game and mature cheese. ABV : 14.5%
